Finish line in sight for World Class cycle centre

Olympic Gold Medallist Chris Boardman MBE was at The Valley Evesham this week for the official hand-over of the keys to the much-anticipated ‘Boardman Performance Centre’.

With the Centre due to open in spring 2018, builders Speller Metcalfe completed the construction phase of the 18,000 sq. ft. complex this week. The Boardman Bikes team will now fit the building out and install a wind tunnel specially designed for cyclists – the first of its kind in the UK.

The leading edge Performance Centre will allow both professional and amateur cyclists to optimise their aerodynamic performance and is expected to be a draw for both UK-based and international cyclists. In addition to the wind tunnel and performance testing suite, there will also be a showcase bike shop, event space and café.

Discussing the development, Chris Boardman said: “We’re so excited to be moving into this cutting edge phase of Boardman Bikes’ development.

“It’s not hyperbole to say that this Centre has the potential to be truly game-changing for cycling in the UK. Whether you’re a keen amateur or an Olympic hopeful, the facility we’re creating will allow you to improve your performance as well as having access to Boardman’s market leading range of bikes and support from knowledgeable and committed staff all under one roof.

“I’m passionate about cycling – whether as a sport, a hobby or as a way to get around – and I’m sure that the presence of this Centre in Evesham will help inspire the next generation of cyclists. Creating a Centre like this has been a dream of mine for many years. And now, it is becoming a reality.”

Robin Langford, Asset Manager at The Valley, said: “The Boardman Performance Centre is undoubtedly going to attract additional visitors to the both The Valley and the wider Evesham area as well as offering something new to our existing customers.

“We’re delighted that Evesham was chosen as the site for this cutting edge Centre – the first of its kind in the UK – and can’t wait to see the doors open in a few weeks’ time.”

New space totalling 15,200 SQ FT will be available early 2018 for retail, catering and leisure uses between 1,500-4,000 SQ FT.
